Which taxes does a Pakistani business have to manage?
Most companies deal with at least four separate tax obligations, each administered by a different authority or under a different law. Missing one filing often triggers notices across the others.
- Corporate income tax and advance tax under the Income Tax Ordinance 2001
- Withholding tax on salaries, payments to suppliers, rent and dividends
- Federal sales tax on goods under the Sales Tax Act 1990
- Provincial sales tax on services with PRA, SRB, KPRA or BRA
- Federal excise duty where applicable
How does tax planning reduce liability legally?
Effective tax planning works within the law: choosing the right business structure, claiming every admissible deduction and tax credit, timing transactions sensibly and documenting positions properly. It is not about aggressive schemes that fail on audit.
We review your structure, related party transactions, depreciation and allowances, and minimum tax and alternative corporate tax exposure, then recommend changes that will survive scrutiny by FBR.
What happens when FBR selects you for audit or issues a notice?
FBR may select a return for audit under section 177 or 214C, or issue notices for amendment of assessment, show cause or recovery. Each notice has a deadline and a required format for the response.
Our taxation partner Sakhawat Ali represents clients before Commissioners and the Commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals), prepares written submissions and reconciliations, and advises on further appeals to the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue where needed.
Do you handle provincial sales tax on services?
Yes. Services are taxed by the province where they are rendered, so a business operating from Lahore and Karachi may need to register with both the Punjab Revenue Authority and the Sindh Revenue Board. We manage registrations, monthly returns and apportionment between provinces.
How does the tax advisory and FBR compliance engagement process work at WDS?
Every engagement follows a defined sequence agreed in the engagement letter, so you always know what happens next and who is responsible.
